Profile
Seven sliders capture core taste sensations: Rich, Bitter, Salty, Sour, Spicy, Sweet, Umami. No essays. No quizzes. Uniquely yours.
Stop staring at 2,000 reviews that are meaningless to you. SmackLip turns your tongue into a profile that recommends dishes you'll love at the restaurants near you. No more wondering if they'll have something you like!
A crowd-sourced, restaurant star system can't tell you the carbonara is incredible and the salmon is too salty for your tastes. Reviews are filtered, faked, and weighted toward whoever shouted loudest. Star ratings answer the wrong question.
SmackLip rates the dish, not the restaurant. The recommendations come from people whose tastes match yours, not the average of 4,000 strangers.
SmackLip's goal is the same as the restaurant owner: to never have you walk away from a meal disappointed!
Spend three minutes setting up your SmackLip Basic Profile™, seven sliders that capture how you actually taste food, and it's as unique as your fingerprints! After that, SmackLip stops asking where do you want to go? and starts answering what should I order?
Watch the 50-second tour — from the old way to dishes picked for your tongue.
Seven sliders capture core taste sensations: Rich, Bitter, Salty, Sour, Spicy, Sweet, Umami. No essays. No quizzes. Uniquely yours.
Open the app. SmackLip surfaces restaurants with dishes that match your profile, each with a Tongue Rating™ specific to you, not a restaurant star average.
Restaurant with no menu? No problem! Point your camera at the printed menu, a single dish, or the table's QR-code menu, and SmackLip reads it and builds the dishes for you. Don't see a place you love? Request a restaurant and we'll add it.
After your meal, slide a few rubric-driven questions ("How was the salt?"). The engine improves your profile and the dish's score in the same pass.
Taste Buddies™ turns where do you want to go? into one tap. Make a group and SmackLip finds restaurants where every single person — the vegetarian, the carnivore, the gluten-free friend — has dishes they’ll love.
Filter by price, cuisine, and location, set the match strictness (Relaxed, Standard, or Picky), and get restaurants where every member is covered — with the exact dishes for each person.
Text a link. Your friend taps it and lands right in your group, tastes and all. No usernames to hunt down.
Propose a couple of spots, everyone votes yes or no, then make it final — and SmackLip hands everyone directions plus their own what-to-order pick. The group-chat argument is over.

Allergies and dislikes are reviewed for every member on every recommendation — SmackLip’s goal is to never suggest a dish someone at the table can’t eat, but always confirm when ordering.
Slider-based, rubric-driven, and structurally hard to fake.
Every dish's Tongue Rating in SmackLip is compared to your Taste Profile; a 4.8 isn't a generic, crowd-sourced restaurant score. It means you'll love that dish!
A global restaurant star rating can't capture a 40-item menu, and you can't trust diner reviews who hate the carbonara — because their Taste Profile isn't yours! SmackLip tells you the carbonara is perfect for you, but the salmon would be over-salted based on your Taste Profile.
Every dish you rate helps SmackLip dynamically refine your Taste Profile, strengthening the recommendations SmackLip makes specifically for you!
Set your price range. SmackLip won't push a $90 entrée when you're looking for casual. Prices are matched to your geography. Our filters won't push you New York or LA prices in Kansas City!
Add your friends. SmackLip finds restaurants where every person, including the picky vegetarian, the carnivore, and the gluten-free friend, will love at least one dish. Invite by text link, vote as a group, make it final.
Six extra dimensions that go beyond the 7 free flavor axes, the physical, preparation-level qualities that make a dish feel right:
My Proud Palate is more than six dimensions. Flag your Not My Favorites — the ingredients you'd rather avoid — and SmackLip understands what's actually in a dish: flag beef once and the Prime Rib and the burger both step aside; dislike flounder and only flounder disappears. Your dislikes refine every recommendation, solo and group alike.

One in eight Americans is food-insecure. SmackLip exists to help people love what they eat, and we don't think that should stop with people who can afford it.
Starting the day SmackLip launches publicly, 1% of every dollar of revenue goes to food-bank partners working in the cities we serve. Not 1% of profit. Not "if we can." 1% of revenue. Every year. Audited and reported on this site.
Food insecurity hits college students especially hard, with surveys finding that roughly a third skip meals or go hungry while trying to earn a degree. That's one reason we focus this giving on food banks serving the campus communities in the areas we operate, because investing in a student's next meal is investing in their future.
SmackLip's inaugural partner is Alameda Food Bank, where our donation helps them serve more than 1,600 households every single week, nearly 12% of Alameda's community, through a free grocery store model where neighbors access fresh, nutritious food with dignity and respect.
Donate to AFBSmackLip's platform also enables our partner restaurants to cut food waste at the source, keeping perfectly good food on plates and out of dumpsters.
SmackLip ratings are slider-based and rubric-driven. No free-text essays. No review-bombing. No astroturfing. Just structured signal, for the conscientious chef.

SmackLip recommends the specific dishes, not just restaurants, that you, personally, will love. You spend three minutes building a SmackLip Basic Profile™ across seven taste axes. After that, SmackLip surfaces dish-level recommendations at the restaurants near you, each with a Tongue Rating™ that's calibrated to your taste, not the average reviewer's.
Yelp and Google Maps rate the restaurant. SmackLip rates the dish. They average 4,000 strangers' opinions; SmackLip weights the opinions of people whose tastes match yours. Their reviews are free-text and easy to fake, Yelp removed 47,900 reviews in 2024 alone. SmackLip ratings are slider-based and rubric-driven, which is structurally harder to manipulate.
Free forever for the basics. The free SmackLip Basic Profile™ includes the 7 Taste Dimensions, unlimited dish ratings, dietary preferences, and basic Discover, no caps, no metering. Wine and Beer are not part of the free tier.
Optional paid modules unlock the extended My Proud Palate™ (six additional preparation-level axes: Firmness, Crispness, Char & Smokiness, Funkiness, Doneness, and Sauciness — plus ingredient-smart Not My Favorites that keep dishes containing what you dislike out of your recommendations), and separate Wine and Beer pairing modules. Modules start at $1.99/mo individually, or $5.99/mo for the everything bundle. Launch promo: take the everything bundle for $2.99/mo for the first 90 days.
Yes — this is Taste Buddies™. On the app's Connect tab, tap Create group, then add people three ways: open the group and tap ✉️ Invite a Taste Buddy to text them a one-tap link, invite a friend by email, or share your group ID so they can use Join by ID.
Then use Find Group Options: filter by price, cuisine, or city — or tap 📍 Near me — and tap ✨ Make Recommendations. SmackLip recommends restaurants where every member has dishes that fit, reviewing each person's allergies and dislikes so conflicting dishes are screened out — always confirm ingredients with the restaurant when ordering. Group owners can also set match strictness: Relaxed casts a wider net, Standard is the default, and Picky demands a stronger match for every member.
On any group recommendation, tap 🗳️ Propose to group to put that restaurant up for a vote — proposing counts as your yes. Everyone gets a notification and votes 👍 Yes or 👎 No with one tap, and you can change your vote while the proposal is open. If every member votes yes, it automatically becomes the final pick; otherwise the proposer or the group owner can tap Make it final. Finalizing closes the group's other open proposals and notifies everyone — and the 🎉 Final pick banner opens the restaurant with directions and a What to order list: each member's best-matched dish at the chosen spot (members without a taste profile simply show “No taste profile yet”).
Yes to both. If you proposed a restaurant — or you're the group owner — tap Cancel under the proposal and confirm; it's removed from the vote list, and other open proposals aren't affected. If you only want to change sides, tap the other vote instead — your latest vote is the one that counts.
Only if you say so. Profile sharing is off by default; flip the Share taste profile switch in Settings and your Taste Buddies (accepted friends only) can view your taste profile — handy when someone's ordering for the table. Turn the switch off, or unfriend someone, and their access ends immediately. Nothing is ever public.
The taste profile feeds dietary-safety alerts on allergens, gluten, religious-observance constraints, and potential food–drug interactions for diners on certain medications. Set it once, see it everywhere SmackLip recommends.
SmackLip is rolling out across the US, from California to New York, with more than 11,000 restaurants already seeded across 60+ cities and growing. It's available on iOS, with additional metros coming online regularly, join the waitlist above and we'll tell you the moment we're live in your area.
SmackLip's menus come from two sources. Many are crowdsourced from real diners who've already rated dishes; for newly added or smaller restaurants, where no one has rated yet, the app starts with a suggested menu generated from the restaurant's name, cuisine, and location. These AI-suggested dishes are clearly marked with a small "AI" tag inside the app so you always know what's confirmed vs. what's a best-guess starter menu. They're a placeholder, not a promise, never substitute them for a quick check with the restaurant before ordering.
If you spot a dish whose name or description is off, tap the Edit pencil next to it. If a real dish is missing, add it with your camera three ways: photograph the whole printed menu, snap a single dish, or scan the table's QR-code menu, SmackLip reads it and adds the items for you. You can also add a dish by hand from the Find / Add affordance at the top of the menu. Your fixes are shared back to every other SmackLip user instantly. The more diners correct, the more accurate every menu becomes, for you, your Taste Buddies™, and everyone after.
The restaurant dashboard gives you dish-level analytics, structured rating data, and a targeted offer-push channel. Create your account and claim your restaurant in a couple of minutes, or email partners@smacklip.com to talk integration.
Coupons are targeted, time-limited offers from restaurants whose menus match your Taste Profile, so the deals you see are for dishes you're actually likely to love. When a restaurant pushes an offer (or you receive a code), it lands in Offers inside the app.
To use one, open the offer, tap Redeem, and show the redemption screen to your server, or enter the code at checkout where supported. Each coupon shows its discount, the qualifying dishes, and its expiration up front. Have a code from elsewhere? Enter it on the redeem page. No coupon is ever required to use SmackLip, the recommendations are always free.
